The island of Odysseus
Modern Ithaca is generally identified with Homer’s Ithaca, the home of Odysseus, whose delayed return to the island is the subject of the Odyssey. Ithaca is the land where the faithful Penelope waited patiently during twenty years for her husband, Odysseus, to return from the Trojan War. Despite his long and adventurus voyage, Odysseus finally managed to return to his beloved island, which is, according to this myth, symbolizing the long and difficult voyage of a life time and the joys of it.
